Matcha was brought to Japan in the 12th century by Buddhist Monks, and it was revered for its meditative and invigorating properties. It is still used in Japanese tea ceremonies today and has become a popular tea world-wide due to its versatility and healthful properties.

Our matcha is a ceremonial grade matcha, which is the highest quality green tea powder available. The youngest shade grown leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant are picked in the early spring. The stems and veins are removed from the leaves and are slowly stone ground to preserve the unique flavor profile. Grinding tea in this way takes careful skill.

This premium grade matcha is vibrant green in color with a smooth, refreshing, slightly sweet and mildly rich flavor, with a silky texture. It makes a delicious tea whether you make it traditionally with the chawan and bamboo whisk and drink as a tea, or you opt for our favorite lazy herbalist way--shaken in a mason jar and poured over your favorite plant milk--it makes a wonderful tea or tea latte that can promote grounded focused energy and uplifted mood.
